At one time Studebaker powered; it was advertised for sale in 1971 as a "Baby Ferrari" with a Ford V8 engine and brake problems! The only coach-built special-bodied Jupiter in North America, and it still awaits restoration.

E1 SAL 434      (ANG) 20 March 1951

Owners: H. Jackson, CA+NJ 1957-2000. M Jackson, CA 2000 to date.

I don’t know the original owner. My father purchased this car while living in Garden Grove, CA in 1957. He drove the car until 1965 when he moved to Cherry Hill, NJ. To transport the car across county, he removed the drive train and seats, packed the car like a trailer, and towed it behind his Studebaker. After arriving in NJ, the car went into storage from 1965 – 2000 when my mother finally demanded he remove it from the garage. He offered the car to my brother (who lived just a few miles away in Voorhees, NJ) but my brother turned it down. Then he offered the car to me. I graciously accepted it and I had it shipped from Cherry Hill, NJ to my home in Los Altos, CA. It arrived in cardboard boxes and Tupperware containers (but it arrived complete)! I worked on it for a few weeks, but quickly realized that this project was more than I was ready for. So. . . I shipped the car off to British Sportscar Center (www.Britcars.com) in Cameron Park, CA (near Sacramento) for Laurie Alexander to perform the restoration. He worked on the car from 2001 – 2004. Upon completion, I picked up the car in Cameron Park on a flat-bed trailer and towed it back to Los Altos (about a 3-hour drive). When I got home, there was a voicemail waiting for me. It was Ted Miller saying that he heard my car was finished. Wow, how did he know? He told me that he got a call from one of his ‘Jowett Spies’ who saw a Jowett in tow and he figured out that it must be my car! Jup 434 is very very original. Other than the color, I tried to keep her pure. I have shown her at the Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance and received 2nd and 3rd place trophies. She has also won various awards are several local smaller shows. Original color bronze current color red.
